i-SUP2012 - Innovation for Sustainable Production in Bruges from 6-9 May 2012, Jan Appelman of Royal Haskoning has presented ‘Water reuse in chemical industry’.
At a PVC plant in China, province Shaanxi, water scarcity is a growing issue. The river is running dry which causes water scarcity in a fast developing industrial zone. To demonstrate that the technology for reuse is available we carried out a demonstration project for water reuse.

Water and Food Security was highlighted on World Water Day on 22 March by UN.
The growth of the world population leads to much pressure. Of all the water in the world, 70% goes to agriculture. Due to the increase in world population the need for food will increase by 40% before 2030. Countries such as Brazil need to deal with the massive growth of their population; they will soon be confronted with extreme water shortages. The climate is changing drastically as well, which results in floods and droughts. The shortages in raw materials and energy let people think about how to reuse water and to win raw material out of polluted water back.

On Friday 11 November 2011 Royal Haskoning opened a new office in Singapore. The new office will contribute to the further expansion of the independent, international engineering and environmental consultancy in the South East Asian Region. The company has been active in Singapore since the 1960’s with several port and shipyard projects. Up to now services have been provided from existing offices in Bangkok, Ho CHi Minh, Pnom Penh and Jakarta.

In the first half of 2011 Royal Haskoning achieved a net profit of € 2.1 million compared with € 4.0 million in the first half-year of 2010. Turnover in the first half of 2011 was € 152 million (compared to € 167 million in the first half of 2010) and our Added Value of € 133 million was in line with the first half-year of 2010.

Royal Haskoning announces acquisition of maritime ports & shipping specialist Ocean Shipping Consultants Limited. Maritime engineering and environmental consultancy Royal Haskoning announces today that it has acquired the independent maritime economics consultancy Ocean Shipping Consultants (OSC). The acquisition will strengthen Royal Haskoning’s maritime and waterways business by adding this important element of forecasting into its UK and international service portfolio.
